THE GREAT RESIGNATION- TO QUIT OR NOT TO QUIT?

Quitting their jobs is on a lot of people’s minds as we step into the post-pandemic world.

According to the career website Monster, 95% of the workforce globally are currently?considering #changingjobs?and 92% are willing to switch industries to land a new position.

The #pandemic has created an opportunity for so many of us to re-examine our lives and with our careers being central in that, it is but natural for people to be rethinking their jobs, same with employers. The workplace itself drastically changed with all old job definitions going out of the window.

New phrases like #thegreatresignation , “the great reshuffle” or “the talent tsunami” are being thrown around as the economy recovers.

In fact, it looks like it’s already happening, with voluntary quit rates reaching a?two-decade high?in April and May 2021.

But #Quitting is hard.

Most people have a tendency to gravitate toward the status quo and stick with the known.

When it comes to your career, quitting comes with big risks.

Everyone knows the worst-case scenario- a new dream job is a nightmare, savings have dwindled, and you wish you’d never left.

But?not?quitting means you’re rejecting the possibility of an exciting new job, a thrilling?career change, or the life you’ve always wanted—all out of fear.

Figuring out what’s right for you is the tough part.

And this is where career counselor and industry expert Natasha Parikh from My Learning Curvecomes in!!

A career counselor will firstly help get clarity as to why you want to leave your current job and if that is the right decision.

Whether one wants to quit as one has the IMPOSTOR SYNDROME, or whether with covid your priorities have actually changed, what your long-term goals are, whether the current job has the potential to satisfy these #goals, whether the current organization its leaders and your boss evolved with the pandemic, what type of work you really want to be doing, whom you want to be doing it for, and at what pay.

All these questions are imperative to be answered before taking the monumental decision of quitting.

And after this process, if you WANT to #quit, the counselor then helps you strategize the next steps till you land a new job.

Or you continue in the current place but with a more contented mind space; with clarity about what you need to be satisfied and efficient at your job - whether its flexibility, better pays, more responsibility, less pressure, more team involvement, travel, whatever was holding you back or made you think about quitting in the first place, needs to be rectified.

And only then comes the sense of accomplishment when you realize you're happy with your career.

In these times of massive change and uncertainty, people have unique chances to align their lives according to new post-pandemic priorities.

And career counseling helps you understand whether that means negotiating a few changes that will make you thrilled to stay in your current job; Or whether to open yourself to new and exciting opportunities somewhere else.
