The Great Resignation: Epic Pause Please!

The Great Resignation: Epic Pause Please!

The great resignation is my latest obsession. The mere idea ??of an already exacerbated teacher and diverse leadership in education shortage impacted by an exodus of educators feeling undervalued, overwhelmed, and overworked is terrifying. Daily in schools all across, all the places, people without the credentials or job title of teacher are holding learning spaces with our young people and supervising and imparting the knowledge they can at the moment. Bandaid after bandaid of personnel problems will mean more significant unfinished learning for young learners who have already had mommas and others homeschoolers helping for more months than zoom class cares to remember.

Are you beginning to catch the GREAT RESIGNATION fever with me? It's a rabbit hole of Oh (explicit), and it's dark and lonely down here without collaborative problem solving, redesigning energy. So calling all policy, organizing, advocacy, educator folx — pull up, let's not wait until Fall to address the inevitable. Also, if you're working in schools, please don't quit; not now. We need everyone to take an EPIC PAUSE, PLEASE. The grass looks greener, but please bloom where you are planted.?For now, can you stay in place as folx in pipelines, w/ teaching plans and people unrealized dreams of teaching and leading in schools get into position. Please don't do it for me. Please do it for the student who pops into your head every time you contemplate your Why. Do it because while the other job offer for 200k and working from home is hard to turn down (I know from personal experience), the work we do with students and families is priceless. Sure early retirement, COVID-19, and job employment chaos have an impact. However, in the end, the most significant impact on learning and leading is you.?
