The Great Reshuffle

The Great Reshuffle

After the unprecedented pandemic employers are now wanting to know how to make their vacancies more attractive in the ‘Great Reshuffle’.

During the pandemic, there were many people who had a change in their career path and started something new. This stemmed from ‘The Great Resignation’ which drove unfulfilled employees into starting something completely new with their careers. The on-and-off again lockdowns gave employees and job seekers the opportunity to rethink and reflect their goals.

This brings an opportunity for employers that are looking for talent. Many employees are looking to find similar jobs. The role may be similar; however, job seekers are wanting something with a better work / life balance and to match their individual values. This is what everyone is calling the ‘Great Reshuffle’.

As job vacancies overtake unemployment, the office for National Statistics revealed that job openings rose to a high of 1.3 million at the start of the year, yet the unemployment rate fell to 3.7%. It is vital to know what is important to candidates as the market has switched from employer-driven to candidate-driven.

A continuous lead in attracting applicants is salary, this is due to the rise in living costs and the current economic situation. Employees are struggling as wages haven’t kept up with the rise of food prices, energy and fuel costs. Also, secrecy with not advertising salary in these current circumstances will cause job seekers to turn away from jobs while going through the interview process or not apply at all. Being transparent on salary will create attraction for employers with job seekers.

Employees and job seekers appreciate honesty, they want to know a company’s values and expectations towards their employees. As the work / life balance can become difficult, it’s essential that an employee doesn’t feel mislead. For example, by working more overtime than expected or previously discussed. Drive and ambition are used to move roles, job seekers need honesty from a company to help make their decision and take their career forward.

Delaying the interview process will cause job seekers to reconsider, but a defined interview process will show the job seeker that the company is interested and wants them to join the team. Being prepared with an offer once meeting the right candidate will help move the process quickly.

The take-away:

·???????????????There are more job vacancies than job seekers

·???????????????Salary is more important now than ever, displaying the salary will create more attraction to jobs

·???????????????Honesty is valued by job seekers and new employees

·???????????????Be quick and prepared for the right candidate to come along at any moment
