If you’re an individual business owner, marketing yourself can be an even larger challenge. High quality, timeless photos are a must.

For those curious what a branding session might look like for solo entrepreneurs, we recently did a session with Julie Efle, an accomplished writer who’s been an AZ local for over 23 years. 

As a storyteller herself, and an amazing lady with staunch and heartfelt views, we wanted to cover a good range of photos and give her the tools to succeed in promoting her business.

They key is capturing a variety without sacrificing quality. Multiple outfits, different types of headshots, grabbing some classic shots as well as detailed.

With Julie we did a studio session at Blok Studio where we were able to utilize all the different elements the studio had to offer in just a 60min session.

Using a studio allows you to take advantage of natural sunlight through the windows, as well as standard studio lighting. Pop outside for a few more “environmental” type head shots - and voila, you have yourself a well rounded group of professional portraits.

We were able to use the backdrop for some clean, simple portraits, pulled in a chair to mix it up, had her leaning on the white brick for some natural side-lighting etc. 

While these photos should prove useful for multiple occasions, publications, or channels of social media, you want all of them to feel cohesive. From one image to the next they should grow the story of you and your brand. Lighting, coloring, and even framing play a part in this.
