In 2024, GWA was proud to welcome a number of Plumber Specialists to our team. We recently sat down with two of them — David Gazelle in Pinkenba, Queensland and Joshua Knight in Norwood, South Australia to discuss their experience with GWA so far and what they are looking forward to for 2025. ?From industry insights to their passion for delivering top-notch plumbing solutions, David and Joshua bring a wealth of knowledge that strengthens our commitment to innovation and customer service.
What brought you to GWA, and what made you feel it was the right place for you?
David: I was with my previous company for 16 years and felt it was time for a change within the industry.?
Being a Plumber GWA’s products have a great reputation within the Plumbing Industry and to be able to help continue this is part of why I made the change.
Joshua: As a self-proclaimed plumbing nerd, I was already familiar with GWA’s rich history in the plumbing industry.
This deep legacy and the company’s significant contributions to the wider plumbing sector including work with the Australia Building Codes Board (ABCB) were what initially drew me to the role.
Changing jobs is always a big decision, and I wanted to ensure a strong cultural fit. From my research into GWA and my experiences during the interview process, it quickly became clear that a positive and collaborative culture is at the heart of GWA. This made me feel confident that it was the right place for me.
What’s been the highlight of your time at GWA so far?
David: The Plumbing Specialist role within the business is very new.? Having the opportunity to have creativity with the role has been extremely rewarding.
Joshua: As part of my onboarding, I had the privilege of visiting GWA’s Design and Innovation Centre at Prestons. Seeing firsthand how our products are designed, tested, and brought to life was an incredible experience.

Meeting the talented design and engineering teams who transform ideas into innovative products really stood out to me.
I was especially impressed by the rigorous testing we conduct to ensure our products excel in efficiency and durability. The attention to detail, such as ensuring our raw materials surpass Australian Standards, reinforced my pride in being part of a company that values quality so highly.
What do you see as the biggest opportunities for professional growth at GWA, and why would you recommend it as a great place to work to others in the industry?
David: With a large organisation there are more opportunities and support to grow within the business.? There is also no shortage of people who put their hand up to help.?
Joshua: One of the standout opportunities at GWA is the chance to collaborate with a diverse and highly skilled team across various disciplines—whether it’s engineering, design, or customer-facing roles.
The company fosters a culture of continuous learning through internal training, workshops, and access to innovative projects.
What makes GWA a great place to work is the balance between its rich history and its forward-thinking approach. The company not only values expertise but also encourages employees to grow and innovate, which is essential for anyone looking to advance their career in the plumbing and building industries.
Being seen as the expert on a wide variety of product can be tricky, what part of your onboarding do you feel has prepared you for the challenge?
David: Onboarding is tailored to your role.? With such a large organisation there are many different aspects.?
The onboarding process give you “need to know” and “good to know” information.? Included is allotted time for self-paced learning, giving you space to process information at your own pace.
Joshua: The onboarding process at GWA has been exceptional. Everything was laid out clearly from day one, which made the transition smooth and stress-free. One of the key highlights was the opportunity to engage with a wide range of internal staff across the country through in-person meetings (when possible) and virtual calls. This gave me valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities of my colleagues and helped me feel like a part of the wider GWA team within just a few weeks. Having this strong foundation has been crucial in preparing me to navigate the challenges of being a product expert.
Since joining you've supported some key areas of work with technical insights - what are you most excited about seeing coming to life in the next 12 months??
David: Building relationships and supporting Plumbers to make their working life easier.? ?
Joshua: From sustainable water solutions to smarter plumbing systems, it’s incredibly rewarding to see how plumbers' technical insights have contributed to products that make a real impact on both our customers and the wider industry.
I’m also excited about supporting plumber-focused initiatives, such as the Caroma Plumbers Roadshow and ongoing improvements to the Plumbers Hub app.
The app provides plumbers with all the information they need for day-to-day installations right at their fingertips. Over the next 6 months, I look forward to continuing to support plumbers and apprentices across the country by sharing technical insights.
