The Great North 10k Run ...
This event is famous on the world athletics calendar, and it is a wonderful opportunity to get involved with. Gurkha Company Catterick have actively participated in this event for the last eight consecutive years. This year the total number of participants were limited to 2000 runners and so Gurkha Company Catterick were allocated half of the usual allocation of 200. 80 Trainee Riflemen and 20 permanent staff took part in the event.
Gurkha Company Catterick’s involvement was organised by Captain Ram Kumar Rai and Sergeant Ashok Gurung of 3 (Tobruk) Platoon. Captain Ram was also given the honour of starting the run with a horn. All trainees completed the run with the fastest Gurkha completing it in 36 minutes. The race concluded with Captain Ram Kumar Rai presenting a token of appreciation to Sir Brendan Foster CBE, the founder of the event.
