The Great Motivator

The Great Motivator

What motivates you?

In various scenarios, motivation can take different forms, but since we're on LinkedIn, let's focus on work-related motivation. People are driven by a variety of factors - some by prestige, others by money.

Personally, my motivation stems from the desire to learn new skills and achieve new milestones. I find great satisfaction in working on projects and witnessing successful outcomes.

In my current role, my primary source of motivation comes from the people I work with. I'm deeply inspired by the hundreds of individuals whose lives are affected by my work in different ways, be it in minor or major ways. I'm driven to make a positive impact on their lives

Different people work for different reasons, whether it's striving for a promotion, aiming for success, or seeking personal growth. Even if I were to win the lottery today, I would continue working, with a focus on personal and professional growth. In contrast, my husband's motivation revolves around earning a paycheck. He wants to complete his 40 hours and be done. I, on the other hand, constantly strive to give my best, even when I'm unwell or exhausted. Just last week, I had a 102-degree fever but still worked because my job isn't just a job to me; it's an integral part of my identity.

This work ethic is not universally appreciated; some value it, while others don't.

Understanding what motivates your team members is essential for achieving success.

An example of a motivation plan map.

If I know that someone is driven by Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), I ensure they have clear KPIs to work toward. If someone is motivated by money, I might set up a commission structure and closely monitor it. For those who want to learn and lead, I provide them with opportunities to do so. We then can move forward and assess what works and what does not

What worked and what didn't? You should always assess the results of anything new that you try. Making SMART goals may help make it easier to deep-dive into the results.

I like to conclude every article with a challenge or a call to action. I encourage you to discover what motivates the people around you, whether in your personal or professional life, and explore ways to harness that motivation. Keep track of the results and see how it impacts your interactions and achievements.

In my personal life, my daughter's motivation is tied to privileges. Her good behavior results in increased privileges, while poor behavior leads to a reduction in these privileges. Effective and clear communication with her is essential to achieving our family goals as a team.

I'm offering a chance for anyone who fills out the worksheet below and provides proof to win a free PDF version of my "Spicy Professionals Planner." This planner is designed for women who may not fit the neurotypical category, and I'm currently working on a masculine version as well.
