Great Leaders- not necessarily always great Coaches?
An interesting article from the Stratford Group?(link in the comments) discussing traits in an excellent leader that can present a challenge if carried into how they coach their people:
1)?????Love to solve problems:??great as a leadership trait, can translate in to a “probably easiest if I just tell you what to do” coaching approach that may present issues around buy-in, retention, and scalability
2)?????Possess a strong sense of urgency:?you may work best under pressure, but ?for many people pressure can be quite detrimental to learning and growing
3)?????Like to help people:??great coaching often involves leaving an inordinate amount of space for folks to help themselves, which can feel slow and inefficient.
4)?????Have a lot of self-confidence:??can make it difficult to relate (or be relatable) to people that do not have that same confidence
Maybe you see a bit of yourself in the above list??Not to worry… awareness is the first step and all of those potential issues can be addressed.
And, should you decide (in the interests of time and/or your own personal development goals) that it might worth seeking out an outside 1:1 business coaching resource to back you up with your people... we can help!
