THE 150 GLOBAL WOMEN LEADERS AWARDED ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

The Great Leaders March'2022

The world celebrated womanhood in grand style on March 8, 2022, on what has become globally known as International Women's Day (IWD).

I've been following the activities associated with the annual International Women's Day celebrations for some time now, and I can say that the day is worthy of commemoration. The celebration, at the very least, helps to raise awareness about some important issues affecting women's lives all over the world, but what particularly piqued my interest about this year's celebration was one of the campaign themes—"Break the bias," complete with its symbolic crossing of the arms.

We hope you appreciate the inspiring stories and thought-provoking articles as much as we did compile them for you. We hope to continue contributing to and adding value to your experiences.

The cryptic campaign theme perfectly complements the message of Tian Wei, a former Washington Correspondent who once stated, "Any society that fails to harness the energy and creativity of its women is at a huge disadvantage in the modern world."

There is no doubt that any nation that neglects its women works against its own progress. This is due to the fact that women are naturally adaptable. They infuse new energy into everything they do. Women's contributions to humanity are incalculable, and certainly beyond the scope of any reasonable debate.

Aside from ensuring the survival of the human race through procreation, women have made significant contributions in medicine, education, science, sports, academia, technology, industry, and the home, among other areas.

Many gender activists and advocates attribute this gender inequality in women's leadership relative to men to a variety of factors, including biases, stereotypes, and discrimination against women at all levels of society.

Biases, stereotypes, and discrimination, whether intentional or unintentional, make it difficult for women to advance, particularly in the leadership ranks. This has created an unlevel playing field for women competing for leadership roles with their male counterparts.

Knowing that biases exist isn't enough; more action is required to level the playing field for women in leadership positions.

Shelli Brunswick, COO of Space Foundation, believes that deliberate policies and actions are required to ensure that biases, stereotypes, and discriminations against women are broken in homes, communities, and workplaces, as well as in government, in order to create a fair space for women to operate.

Hynd Bouhia, PhD, Founder & CEO, BAL Method Ltd promotes women-led businesses, mentors young female entrepreneurs and startups, and serves as a platform for female entrepreneurs across world to network and promote their businesses locally and internationally.

"Most governments have always had the will to push the agenda of women by promising to allocate a certain percentage of roles to women in their manifestos," Aparna G. Kumar, Global Co-Chairperson, GCPIT.

Women's representation in leadership, we believe, is critical to the development of any country, and we believe, "There still remains a huge gender gap that needs to be narrowed in a conscious manner to enable governments to achieve their set goals in terms of women representation."

We believe that "not only is female participation in all spheres a democratic right, but we must ensure that women's talents are fully utilised to the benefit of our developing nation."

According to Global Alliance for Sustainable Media and Publishing, it is critical to include women in discussions about national issues. "We urge the media, conference organisers, and corporate institutions to commit this year to break the bias on 'panels' where there is an excess male representation at the expense of female voices," they say.
