To be a great leader, we must first learn how to be a follower.
Leadership reflection check
What I have loved about being in leadership positions, and what I've been reflecting a lot on, is who we are and where we go is not just the consequence of actions we put for ourselves and the work we do in the dark (read: after working hours), but also that of the people around us: followers or mentors who inspire, uplift, encourage, push when we need to be pushed, and support us.?
Otherwise, the very imperialistic spirit of, "I do this alone", "This is my victory", "Haters, try to stop me" overwhelms us into thinking that we must, and should face our challenges alone - those thoughts will neither bring us true success nor abundant blessings. If we let our hearts be hardened, and fool ourselves into seeing ourselves as the sole protagonist without ever giving recognition to be confidant, we lose everything.
To reframe, what I am trying to say is we are better because we see the love of others who can see what we can do, even in the moments we struggle and do not see it ourselves, and hold us accountable to the person we are becoming. In return, we must do the same for them. In return, we surround ourselves with those who do the same.?
