The Things in Life that Happened to You, Do Not Define You

Think about it: If you fail once, does that mean you’re a failure? No it most certainly does not! Just as growing up in unlucky conditions, does not make you unlucky!

Great Leaders don't let themselves be defined by what has happened to them in the past. They look positive to past events and consider them as Learned Lessons. They look at how they handled the situation.

Take Steve Jobs for example. He was adopted and his foster parents didn’t have enough money for his education, and he had to drop out of college. He used to return plastic bottles for money. Steve jobs became the CEO of Apple Inc. and changed the world…even though his circumstances were not the easiest. Steve Jobs is a great example of knowing you’re more than the sum of your circumstances. And so is Neslon Mandela; think about his life circumstances, his journey and what he accomplished in the end.

Another great example is this little 8 year old boy Tanitoluwa Adewumi—more commonly known by his nickname “Tani, who immigrated to the United States. He fled with his family from Nigeria. Tani and his family came to live in a homeless shelter in Manhattan. Less than one year ago, Tani was introduced to chess and he already has been crowned the New York chess champignon in his age group. Only one year ago when he attended his first chess tournament, he got the lowest score of any student. But this didn’t stop Tani.

“One year to get to this level, to climb a mountain and be the best of the best, without family resources,” Makofsky told The New York Times. “I’ve never seen it.”

The unlucky conditions certainly didn’t make him unlucky. Tani’s teacher set up a gofundme page and raised over $ 200k for Tani and his family. Tani is now no longer homeless!
