To Be a Great Leader, Be a Great Follower
Without followership, leadership is nothing. We are all followers in some way or the other. In a way, leadership is a process that develops from a relationship between leaders and followers. Being a leader is a great responsibility but to be a successful leader we need to learn how to be a good follower.
Nearly everyone sees themselves as leaders. But where are the followers? - MICHAEL HYATT
A leader will be more effective when their behaviours indicate that they share the values, concerns, and experiences of their people.
Mark Zuckerberg propelled into its position because of what they created—are few and far between. Most leaders start in entry-level positions and go up the corporate ladder, learn about what motivates them and learn about what makes a team work well together.
In reality, the great leaders learn key “followership” lessons that will serve them well on their way to leadership. A good leader should understand what it means to follow.
A good follower possesses the qualities of good judgement, honesty, integrity, loyalty, and a lot more. As a good follower, here is what you’ll learn that will help you become a good leader.
1. Awareness
They are aware of establishing strong personal and working relations with everyone. As a leader, it demands to be aware of what it takes to “bring them along.” Good followers learn to read people. They exhibit self-discipline and understand the value of everyone in the organization.
2. Collaboration
Did Steve Jobs really developed Apple products or was it the creative collection of team members at Apple? Good followers also have the collaboration skills that will help them in being a leader. Leaders who have been good followers are very well aware of how to work with people to bring out the best in them.

3. Diplomacy
Good followers learn how to get along with those who have differences. And diplomatic leadership includes negotiating, speaking publicly and resolving conflicts. Their goal is not to get someone to agree with them but to serve the best interests of their team.
4. Loyal
A good follower will not do things against their superiors or even say a bad word against them just to get benefits for themselves. This is what great leaders should understand and not work for their benefits.
