Great Grantham News
Grantham is home to many defence companies and suppliers to the UK and overseas defence sectors. Some of been part of Grantham’s business landscape for many years.
Many of those companies are veteran owned and have been recognised by the Ministry of Defence with the coveted Armed Forces Covenant Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards in recognition for their contribution to the wider UK Armed Forces Community.
In fact, the whole County of Lincolnshire is well known for its industrious and innovative defence sector and last week saw the launch of the Greater Lincolnshire Regional Defence and Security Cluster (RDSC).
The cluster – only the third in the UK - was officially launched at a high-profile event in Lincoln on Friday 28th July, following approval by the Government’s Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA). DASA was created by the Government to accelerate innovation in defence and security in order to keep the UK safe and prosperous.
Established by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership, with the University of Lincoln, the cluster will support innovation in the field of intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance.?
The ambition is to establish Lincolnshire as a national defence and security innovation, production and service hub and to promote the area’s ability to develop and support vital defence and security programmes.
It is designed to provide a single forum to overcome sector challenges and identify business opportunities in Greater Lincolnshire and Rutland, including for appropriate Grantham businesses.
Its evolution into an RDSC will give businesses the chance to lead and shape this sector and draw on Government funding to develop ideas, innovations and new products.
Grantham’s own recruitment business RecruitME – itself a Gold Award holder and supplier of professional services to defence businesses – was invited to the launch event and was represented by Howard Rudder ? .?
Howard said “It was great to spend Friday afternoon at the Usher Gallery in Lincoln, invited for the launch of the Greater Lincolnshire Regional Defence & Security Cluster. Some very insightful speeches from leaders of industry, academia and senior leaders from NATO and the MoD. Good news for UK Defence, NATO, Grantham businesses and Lincolnshire and the wider Midlands business community.”
