The Great Detachment

CeCe and I recently had some floor renovations completed that required us to move all of the furniture and clothes out of our downstairs.??
Today, we got 90% of everything moved back in, including hooking up the washer and dryer.?Before this move, we had some performance issues with the dryer, which turned out to be a simple fix.? The flexible exhaust hose connected the dryer to the outside vent was malfunctioning.?After replacing it, the performance improved, but we still had times when it was not drying at its full potential.?
CeCe came in to say that while it was disconnected, she discovered the problem with the inconsistent performance.?The directions for installing the flexible hose were inside, and it was blocking some of the airflow to the outside vent.?
I immediately expressed my frustration with this level of service.? (By coincidence, I am preparing a presentation that dives into the present workplace culture — which Gallup recently called The Great Detachment.?Only 18% of team members are very satisfied with their jobs, 51% are looking for other options and engagement has hit a ten-year low of 31%.)??
I shared with CeCe that it shouldn’t be too surprising as overall workplaces are struggling.?Many employees struggle to maintain high levels of performance and often find themselves distracted.
Our leadership insight is that we are all impacted by the workplace Great Detachment.?So many workplaces are lonely jobs that lack purpose and have limited social connections.?This results in burnout, stress, lack of belonging, and poor performance.?? We are either experiencing this personally or have a friend or family member who is faced with this epidemic in workplace culture.?The great news is that we are part of the solution to transform workplace culture.?
Stay tuned for our upcoming blogs, where we’ll discuss the three secrets to magnetic energy that cultivate trust, belonging, and engagement — and don’t forget to enjoy the rest of this humorous story.

Me:? Can you believe they paid that little attention when they installed the new hose?? That’s really frustrating.? We knew something wasn’t right.
CeCe (laughing):? Joey, you were the one who installed the new hose.?
