I don't know if you have seen this but there's tens of thousands of recruiters on LinkedIn encouraging the idea of "NO MORE COVER LETTERS." They hate them. They don't read them. They shred them. They are a waste of their time. The messaging on this topic is being spread far and wide -- and the headline usually reads something like this: Recruiters Say Don't Do Cover Letters. So there you have it: RIP Cover Letters.
Here's the problem -- that may (or may not have occurred to you as you scanned through this), there's tens of thousands of recruiters saying the exact opposite. Those recruiters point out that a big part of the job is being able to market yourself and so they pay close attention to each and every word, comma, and colon in cover letters. Many note that the job they are trying to fill requires written communication skills and that's why the cover letter, to them, is an important criteria for determining who gets an interview and who does not.
This conflicting information (endlessly common on the internet) frustrates professionals. Typically professionals want to do the right thing, the best thing, but is that send a cover letter OR is that don't send a cover letter? And this just doesn't happen with cover letters -- virtually every topic related to the job search has controversy. It's like for every "DO THIS" there's another saying, "ABSOLUTELY NEVER DO THIS." And professionals busy with important careers, family responsibilities, and living just do not have the time (or energy) for this. They want to get on with it so they can do some of the other tasks on their long, seemingly endless task list.
I think this is why JobMorph, the organization I founded February 2021 really has resonated with professionals. We provide expert advice that can walk you through the tradeoffs associated with submitting cover letters or not submitting them. And if you choose to have a cover letter, we can create one for you that promotes your strengths, can be easily personalized, and modified for each job: a personal cover letter template just for you that does the job and does it well.
And we can make sure that the time you spend on this topic doesn't become that ubiquitous social media time suck where one minute reading a post, turns into thirty, then thirty into an hour, as you read all these various opinions, getting more and more confused, maybe even engaging back, but making no progress actually in your own job search. That's the biggest down side for most professional job seekers of all this Controversy Content Creation storm thats taken over social media today. Professionals have very limited time and their time is literally being wasted absorbing IMO content with no actual results to show for it hours later. The true definition of a time suck, right?
We have really enjoyed helping those who come our way. You might be surprised to learn that it's truly thrilling to assist someone with their job search -- to see those interviews they never though possible come their way. To help them secure the next round and the next, and the next. And then to be a part of them receiving the offer they have coveted arrive often a few months after they joined JobMorph. And, then there's the joy of helping them secure the best offer they can for themselves, supporting them step-by-step in their negotiation.
Our team loves what we're doing -- we love the impact we are having on so many people out there. We love being part of an organization that offers expert advice, stellar solutions, and is results focused. And I bet you know this if you have been following us: this is truly a passion project for each of us; truly our dream job manifesting as we find others their dream jobs.
But that's not to say there aren't frustrations.
It's not getting people interviews -- literally every single active client we have has had interviews! That's 100 percent.
And it's not getting offers for our clients that frustrate us.
We're down to just 42 active job seekers without an offer yet. Some just joined JobMorph; some are in the final rounds with several organizations and their quest is coming to an end very soon.

2 年I’m team cover letter. Especially as a mature professional who values context and personality. If someone isn’t interested or doesn’t have time for that, that’s a culture problem. The same would be especially true for a young professional, career switcher…wait…anyone! ;)
