The Great American Road Trip (Day 8: Bloomington, Minnesota and Sioux Falls, South Dakota)
Our objective is to see America from multiple perspectives and learn how we can raise Nigeria's per capita income to $15,000 by 2040.
Day 9 will be Keystone, Rapid City, Hill City and Sturgis, South Dakota. What experiences / activities will you like us to explore?
?1.????Sioux Falls Park: Here we were taken back some 14,000 years of world history and how the last ice age created the fall. Climbing the observation helps one get a good view of the town.
2.????Smithfield Foods meatpacking plant: A few minutes from Falls Park is the Smithfield meatpacking plant which processes ~5% of US pork products. My Dad owns a piggery in Nigeria and I could see the importance of the plant to the town. Developing a large scale food processing company in Nigeria could help bring down her massive food inflation and help generate export revenue
3.????Tata Consultancy Services (8200 building): We visited 8200 building and adjoining offices. People were in their offices when we visited, but the skywalk was beautiful. I appreciate how highrises led to more efficient land use and energy savings. Zoning laws helps keep a city organised
Doing business at scale is vital if you want to compete in the world. Scale ensures you build a system, attract quality talent, keep cost low and be more efficient. There are ~15mn small scale businesses (businesses with less than 4 employees) in Nigeria, we need to drive professionalism and get them to consolidate or scale.
