Greases

Greases are lubricants that are used in places where liquid lubricants (oils) are not advised .Liquid lubricants do not stick to the surface at the point of application, they flow down. The flow will be more as temperature increases. Greases, by the merit of their formulation can stick to the surface at high temperature also.

Greases are basically available in two types ordinary and speciality greases.

Greases are dispersion of calcium /lithium soaps in suitable mediums of oil.

Ordinary greases of calcium or lithium base are used as all purposes or multipurpose greases in bearings, engine parts, crankshaft, chassis etc

Greases are further fortified with different additives to enhance their performances and applications. Greases are fortified with Aluminum , Molybdenum, ,Silicon,Nano metal power loaded , polyurea, lithium complex etc .The additives added increases the performance by withstanding higher temperature ,oxidation , water resistance, dropping point , compatibility , shear stability, perfect penetration etc.

The performance advantage of grease can be better obtained by studying situation and application, quantity to be administrated, preferably by calibration and proper maintenance.

Greases are further classified as EP grades(EP 0,EP 1, EP 2 etc.), NLGI grades , silicon greases.

The best method of maintaining machines and equipments in good condition is to study the situation and select the proper grease.
