The Gravity Of Myth That Surrounds Us All

Myth is a really interesting word because it normally is associated as old tales that often doesn’t have much tangible nature to them so we write them off to a certain extent because we struggle to wrap our heads around it.
What’s interesting about that realization is we could, if we wanted to, present many real life examples especially in the process of running a business that could be defined as a myth. Mostly due to the fact that if we can’t wrap our heads around it and its just not tangible than it must be a myth to some degree. The point I’m trying to make here is we’re constantly telling ourselves stories and rationalizing them to ourselves to the acceptance that we can then wrap our heads around it and categorize it in a way that makes sense.
Well what if the game you are playing isn’t supposed to just ‘make sense’ what if its supposed to be an ever evolving state of progression that yields innovation and improvement by the very nature of it acting in an ever changing way that prevents us from actually controlling it?
What is imperative to understand is that its human nature to categorize something that potentially is just ever changing and can’t in its truest form be in a category. Its a difficult paradox to consider, but well worth while when you lean into a foundation that is supported by its truest form. Let’s build on top of that now.
When we place finite boundaries onto an infinite game we aren’t playing correctly. So, what does that even mean? Let’s put a business spin on this theory.
As a business is growing and the attempt is to make higher financial returns, make more of an impact on consumers, expand into different marketplaces, etc. We must consider that we are playing an infinite game of evolution toward the business and the second we try to categorize the micro finite factors that make up the evolving business we immediately limit its potential and place ourselves in an awaiting avalanche of confusion because we are trying to control something that is uncontrollable, or fixate on something that isn’t tangible. Innovation at its core requires massive categorical change and speed and beyond the micro control of your execution, you are playing an infinite game of innovation.
So, what’s the ideal scenario you might ask. What would support the growth of the business in its truest form would be to place all of the finite structure on the factors of the business that you can manipulate such as the marketing budget, the people you hire, the people you fire, the legal part, etc. however all the while enjoying the process of where the innovation and changes are taking you without the unnecessary control in the macro. There must be a balance otherwise it becomes like a bird flying with only one wing flying in circles in order to achieve optimum fulfillment of the game.
The balance of finite and infinite game play is fascinating to understand in layers to really pin point what you are doing and the game you are playing at any particular given moment in time.
The same can be applied to every day life as well beyond a business lens… while you are living life can you balance the micro parts that are part of your free will and the infinite fashion of self that you can trust is taking you in the right directions at the right time to enjoy the process of living itself. There is much more to this that I will most certainly cover in a later article but for now I hope the idea of awareness is helpful of what game you are playing and by nature of you playing the rules of one game in an effort to influence the other is the epitome of a contradiction in its highest form.
