Gratitude & Work
Gratitude can be found everywhere.?
Last week I was in Washington DC. I had the pleasure of facilitating a two-day training for a leadership team. It's important for teams to engage with each other outside of their normal office environment.?To create space to speak candidly and get comfortable having?uncomfortable conversations. It helps get to the root of the challenges they're facing. It unlocks solutions they may not have found otherwise.
After the training, one of the team members asked if they were "more messed up" than other teams I've worked with. I laughed as assured him that he and his team are?fantastic.
While every team is unique, there are many similarities between them. Most of the teams I work with care about their work. They care about making an impact. They care about getting better. They also care about and appreciate the people they work with.?
Before I left the room?I asked each leader?to share one takeaway from our time together. One gentleman talked about how inspired and rejuvenated he felt. Others smiled and nodded in agreement. Another expressed his excitement for finally creating a mission statement they all?believe?in.
One woman?declared her?plan for?getting more focused and becoming a better communicator. Another shared?the tips she learned?to?become a better leader. Breakthroughs were?made and I'm excited to watch this team accomplish great things together this year.?
The next day, as I gazed out the window on my plane ride home, I got lost in the clouds. I felt a huge sense of gratitude wash over me. I am grateful for my work. I am grateful to know leaders who care about their people so much?they planned a fabulous two days for them. I am grateful for the opportunity to be challenged. I am grateful for the opportunity to grow.?
No matter what you do for a living, the work you do matters. It helps you discover new things about yourself. It provides opportunities to meet people, learn new skills, and get better every day.??
