“Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.” – Henri Frederic Amiel
We, as human beings, continue to strive in different situations – good or bad in our professional and personal lives however we always yearn to become better as we move forward in our journey called “Life”.
Many a times, we keep running for our milestones and forget to thank God, our family, friends, mentors, colleagues and many more…. who keep guiding us, helping us to reach where we are today and for the journey ahead.
It is very important to develop gratitude towards life (easier said than done) as it helps us to stay humble, positive and make our best efforts to evolve ourselves into better human beings.
For example, we should always have gratitude towards:
- God for giving us this life which is so beautiful
- Our parents who gave the right values, guidance and support to help us reach where we are today, and they continue to do so till they are with us
- Our teachers & mentor who continue to guide, challenge and help us to become better persons professionally and personally
- Our family & friends for giving us precious moments and experiences which give us happiness
- Any stranger/unknown person who helped us in the need of hour and guided in the right direction
The benefits of Gratitude are:
- Brings more optimism in our lives (All is Well…..)
- Makes us happier (With exactly what we have….)
- Heals us internally (Evolve us from Good to Great….)
- Improves our sleep (Quality sleep leads to better health….)
- Better relationships (We start judging less…..)
Having a gratitude towards life makes us more humble, satisfied and happy person who further spreads optimism and supports others with the same spirit.
In today’s fast paced life, we often forget to take a pause in our lives and count the so many positives/blessings/moments of gratitude which are already there. It is very important to develop gratitude towards life as it helps us to create the right balance and gives us strength to face all the even and odds with grit and happiness.
Comparison with others also kills the gratitude as we tend to compare ourselves with others and always see the gap. One should always compare with oneself or what we want to become / achieve in life as this comparison makes us a better person who evolves gradually.
We should always remember from where we started and how we started and should always be thankful to those who believed in us in this journey and helped us to evolve. For example, our first manager/boss who hired us even though we were not ready for a position/role or our first sports coach who saw the spark in our abilities and likewise.
We will always see that the most happy and satisfied people are not those who have everything (money, position, health, comforts etc.) but the ones who have more gratitude towards life and whatever they have.
I would urge all to have gratitude towards life for inner happiness and satisfaction which is ineffable and can only be felt if one has this trait. Then only, it can be passed on to our next generation……….Let’s introspect and evolve….
Gratitude is the wine for soul. Go on....Get drunk.... - Rumi.
