Gratitude for Purpose

I’ve been thinking about #gratitude

Gratitude is something I found great joy in practicing the past several years, it has been grounding, affirming and had come quite easily to me for some time.

I have to admit that practicing gratitude has not been easy the last 11 months. I’ve reminded myself to be grateful for my family and their health, the incredible privilege I enjoy by having a career that has allowed me to work from home throughout the pandemic and for very dear friends that I know love me unconditionally.

I am grateful for all of those things, but today I’ve been reflecting on how grateful I am to have true passion and purpose in my life.

In looking through pictures today it struck me that it has been a long time since I was filled with the pure unconstrained joy, happiness and excitement for life that I could see in the face that looked so familiar yet so distant in the many photos I was reminiscing over.

This photo in particular reminded me of a time when I was so sure of so many things, things that I was confident would always be, but, as for many, 2020 took that confidence from me.

One thing 2020 didn’t take was my passion and commitment to my purpose. The deep knowing that everything I’ve experienced in my life, trauma I have lived through, unfairness, loss and abuse that I have survived have only prepared me to live out my purpose, to work hard everyday to make this world a better place.

I’m going to use this picture of me looking up as I climb up a lighthouse as a reminder that no matter what, I need to look up, remember my purpose and why I still need to be here.
