Hi!
Here are the three most relevant points that I explored during the week and decided to share with you. I hope you find them useful!
In this edition we’ll talk about:
Now, let’s start!
1. “Shu Ha Ri” for Mastery
Shu Ha Ri is a concept originating from Japanese martial arts that describes three stages of learning towards mastery.
The three stages of Shu Ha Ri are:
Shu (守):?In this initial stage, the focus is on learning the fundamentals and techniques. There's no need to question the validity of the techniques. That's why I refer to this stage as the "Shut up and follow the Rule" stage. ??
Ha (破):?Once the fundamentals are mastered, it's time to break away from the rules and explore variations. I call this the "Break the Rule" stage. ??
Ri (離):?In the final stage, the student transcends the forms and principles. At this point, a high level of mastery is achieved, and the student can contribute to the evolution of the art form or body of knowledge. I refer to this stage as the "Create your own Rule" stage. ??
Shu Ha Ri is not a strict, linear progression; rather, it is a conceptual framework providing a guide for the stages of development in a particular discipline. It emphasizes the importance of a strong foundation, the ability to adapt and innovate, and ultimately reaching a state of mastery where one can transcend the original teachings.??
I discovered this framework many years ago when I was leading tech teams, and subsequently, I applied it both to my own personal development and to individuals I work with in the realm of high-performance. The goal is helping them assess their levels of personal development and determine their next steps.????♂?
I apply this concept both to my own personal development and to individuals I work with in the realm of high-performance, helping them assess their levels of personal development and determine their next steps.????♂?
So, I invite you to reflect on one area of your personal development (health, career, relationships, etc.) and consider what stage you are at.
Where do you need more Shu? Are you ready for Ha? Or is it your time to step into Ri? I'm curious to know your thoughts ??
2. Quote to Think About

3. Gratitude Hack
First of all, HAPPY THANKSGIVING! ??
This is my favorite US celebration because of the significance I attribute to it: being more mindful about what I want to express gratitude for.
Now, here's where the pragmatist in me comes to the forefront.
When asked, "What are you grateful for?" people often provide a generic response. ??
The reason is that the brain tends to generalize information to avoid overthinking (...hey! thinking is hard, and lots of glucose gets consumed! ??)
"I'm grateful for life" or "I'm grateful for my family" are good starting points, but they may not evoke a profound sense of gratitude.
That's why the key hack I want to share with you today is to be VERY SPECIFIC about what you're grateful for. Consider something unique to you that no one else could appreciate, and then EXPLAIN why.
For instance, my example: "I'm grateful for having you as a subscriber to this newsletter because knowing that you trust me weekly encourages me to enhance the hacks, tools, techniques, and suggestions I continually share with you. Gracias! ??"
So, how about hitting reply and letting me know one thing you're grateful for today? ??
Thank you once again. Keep Optimizing! ??
