As I approach my last couple of weeks at Omnicom , after seven enriching years, I am reflective on what these years have meant for me, particularly as it marks the end of my mainstream employment. I want to record that time there has been an enriching one, of learning, growth, and fulfilment. Working for an American multinational has provided me with a unique perspective not just on the #marketing industry, but on that of wider global businesses, as our clients transcend all sectors and geographies and I have had the privilege of collaborating with diverse international teams and colleagues in support of them. These experiences have not only broadened my professional experience but have also enriched my personal life in countless ways. I thought therefore I would just distil what I consider as the main learnings;
Embracing Diversity: Lessons from International Teams: One of the most rewarding aspects of working at Omnicom has been the opportunity to engage with colleagues from all around the world and our 100 offices. The diversity of thought, culture, and experience within our international teams has been a constant source of fresh thinking and creativity. Our collaborations were always an amalgamation of ideas and perspectives, leading to innovative solutions for our varied clients. Without doubt, leading and collaborating with such international teams taught me the importance of cultural sensitivity and adaptability, how different viewpoints fostered a more inclusive, collaborative work environment and drove creativity and innovation.
Learning from Younger Colleagues: A Fountain of Fresh Ideas: I used to joke that every time I entered our head office in London, the average age went up by twenty years. One of the most enriching aspects has been the opportunity to work alongside colleagues much younger than myself, often young enough to be my children. This brought a refreshing dynamism to the workplace from my perspective and I hope my age and experience offered them something in return. The enthusiasm, energy, and fresh perspectives of younger colleagues were truly inspiring. Working with younger team members also challenged me to think differently and stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies. Their familiarity with societal trends, digital tools and platforms, coupled with their innovative approaches, often sparked new ideas and strategies. It was a mutual learning experience which I am sure I shall miss.
Championing Ethical and Sustainable Practices : One of the most gratifying aspects of my role was of course helping clients develop and implement ethical and sustainable practices, but also bringing such thinking into Omnicom teams themselves. Helping anyone in understanding the need to transition to more ethical and sustainable practices has driven much of my work over the last twenty years, doing so at Omnicom amplified my ability to do so and I valued the opportunity to work with major global clients on the power of responsible business practices, which I hope has had a positive impact in the business world.

Reflecting on Personal and Professional Growth : Looking back on my seven years at Omnicom, I must recognise that the diverse challenges and opportunities I encountered, have shaped me into a more resilient and adaptable professional. Each project, each collaboration, and each challenge contributed to my development, enhancing my skills and broadening my perspective, so that even at my ripe age, I was in a constant learning environment. The fast-paced and dynamic nature of the marketing industry required me to evolve and adapt and this constant evolution was really rewarding. It taught me the importance of staying curious, embracing change, and continually seeking new knowledge and experiences.
Gratitude and Appreciation : As I step back from mainstream work and hope to find a couple of advisory roles, I do want to thank everyone for the opportunities I have had to learn, grow, and contribute to the success of Omnicom’s clients and teams. To my younger colleagues, thank you for your energy, creativity, and perspectives. You have been a source of inspiration and have challenged me to think differently. To the international teams, thank you for the rich cultural experiences and the collaborative spirit that made our projects successful. To my peers and friends, thank you for your guidance, support, and camaraderie.
?Thank you, my Omnicom family, present and former, both sides of the Atlantic and beyond, for an unforgettable experience.
