The Wolverhampton Wanderers defender paid a visit to his former club to show support for the team and football at grassroots level
To mark Non League Day, the former Maidenhead United player returned to the Berkshire club to catch-up with old teammates, staff, fans and to express his passion for the beautiful game at that level.??
Non-League Day is an annual event that highlights the importance of supporting local grassroots football. Kilman reflected on his own journey, progressing from National League to Premier League. He touched on what it all means to him:
“I think it's massive, you know, it brings the community together,” he told Premier League Football News. “You see lots of locals come to these games, and it’s really good for them to have something to do when their local teams are playing."
Over the years, the importance of non-league football has become clear to the entire ecosystem of the sport. Kilman’s development is a prime example. In light of this, the 72 clubs that play at this level now receive £9m from the Premier League to help with running costs.
He concludes: “Sometimes, as a kid, you didn’t have the best opportunities, so it’s very important that the Premier League is supporting every club.”
