Graphically Speaking

Graphically Speaking

I have seen so much artistic talent from you architects, engineers, etc. that I feel a bit intimidated with my meager beginnings. I know practice makes for consistency (never bought into that proactive makes perfect nonsense). I love to draw and paint freehand, but my graphical programs are fledgling at present and will grow with use.

I've started using SketchUp and it seems fairly easy for what I wish to do - add color, people, landscaping, etc. - to create a nice presentation drawing for our customers. I've checked out some tutorials on YouTube (I'm a bit impatient at times trying to balance my personal learning with my professional responsibilities. I'm fortunate the metal building software programs we use do an excellent job creating .skp, .dwg, .dxf files.

While I grow digitally, I've often thought about providing a watercolor sketch till I get there.

What are your favorite graphic programs?

Export to .dwg from vp command and import into SketchUp. Works very well. From there you can take it into a variety of different rendering engines or use some that integrate into SketchUp, Thea Render is one such example
