A Lobotomy’s tale was selected in different National and International awards such as IsArch Awards or Archiprix. The project has been published in different architectural media such as Plataforma Arquitectura, Afasia, Morethangreen and has been exhibited in the Spanish pavilion of the Venice Biennale, and at the University of Hong Kong. Also, it was the first of a series of researches that fluctuate between architecture and social forms of life in which we make use of narrative as a tool in the field of Architecture that builds new realities and that we claim. The use of representation systems, apparently inappropriate for Architecture allows us, on the one hand, to make the research accessible to a “non-expert” public. But also, they place architecture as a setting where experiences take place and put the presence of its users in the center.
This project begins with the definition of its title: “A Lobotomy’s tale”. We understood the term Lobotomy, in this case, as Induced Amnesia. The rewriting of History from the amputation of a dissenting body.
Any historical event, studied from the present, implies admitting as valid a hegemonic discourse that, invariably, is political and is based on some form of exclusion. There are always other possibilities that have been suppressed and that can be reactivated.
A Lobotomy’s tale casts doubt on the official story told about the Kowloon Walled City, trying to dismantle the main axioms that shape a myth over four theoretical and graphic exercises.
The study of Chris Ware’s work became one of the main pillars of this project. “Building Stories”, A book, which is a succession of different formats and dimensions but whose main characteristic is to have neither beginning nor end and in which one as a reader is neither inside nor outside, but rather in the fabric of history.
