Grapevine Release, Leadership Lessons & Adaptive Insights

Special Shout Out: New Book Release

I am thrilled to announce the release of a new book:*Grapevine: A Mother and Daughter’s Tangled Journey Through an Eating Disorder. This raw story is a deep look into the experience my daughter and I had in dealing with her childhood eating disorder. I invite you to explore this heartfelt narrative and the lessons it offers.

You can purchase the physical copy through our Bookshop only through September 6th when it will be available everywhere. The eBook is available at Amazon. If you choose this option we’d appreciate a review as it helps boost our ranking.

I recently released a new blog post tying my experience with raising a child with an eating disorder and leadership. You can read it: Leadership Lessons from Parenting through an Eating Disorder. Here is what I cover:

  • Systems Thinking: Address issues by considering the broader context and interconnected factors rather than isolated symptoms.
  • Empowering People: Trust and give autonomy to others to foster accountability and innovation.
  • Humanizing Leadership: Prioritize empathy, validation, and understanding to create a supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Trusting Intuition and Building Community: Balance gut feelings with input from a diverse network to navigate challenges effectively.

I invite you to explore these insights and the book’s lessons.

Watch Our Latest Interviews Through the Aldo Leopold Foundation

I was interviewed last December for a video entitled Never To Revisit: Aldo Leopold, eco-grief, and the value of wilderness by Maia Buschman and it was recently unveiled during a webinar through Aldo Leopold Foundation . If you appreciate Aldo Leopold’s work, this is a must-watch. Buschman is wise and thoughtful and will take you on a journey.

You can watch the full interview here and the webinar here.

Insights on Adaptive Leadership

I recently had the pleasure of listening to Jill Hufnagel , whom I consider an adaptive leadership guru and practitioner, on the 10,000 Swamp Leaders Podcast. Hufnagel's insights are invaluable, so I encourage you to listen to the entire podcast. Here are some highlights from her discussion and my reflections:

Adaptive Leadership Highlights

  • Evolutionary Biology Basis: Adaptive leadership, derived from evolutionary biology, focuses on thriving by adapting, not just surviving.
  • Complex Challenges: It is distinct from traditional leadership and essential for today's complex issues, requiring solutions from those closest to the problem.
  • Purpose-Driven Work: Adaptive leadership requires a deep sense of purpose, resilience in the face of uncertainty, and the ability to engage across factions.
  • Managing Fear and Uncertainty: Leadership involves tolerating fear and uncertainty, expanding comfort zones, and increasing productive disequilibrium.
  • Case-In-Point Methodology: This method uses real-time dynamics to illustrate adaptive leadership concepts but should be used carefully to avoid causing trauma.
