Grants and Rebates for Homeowners in Ku-ring-gai
We understand that every little bit counts when renovating your home.
That’s why we have collated this list of Ku-ring-gai council’s grants and initiatives that are available to local homeowners.
Heritage Home Owners Grant
Ku-ring-gai council is offering grants between $1,000 and $5,000 to owners of heritage properties. The heritage home grants are awarded annually to support Ku-ring-gai residents with the maintenance and conservation of heritage listed properties. Maintenance projects may include:
- repointing brickwork or masonry
- renovation of original fireplaces
- repair or replacement of roof slates or tiles
- conservation of decorative ceilings or pressed metal work
- conservation of original timber detailing
Applications are assessed by the Council’s Heritage Committee, and will be awarded in June this year. Applications close 31st May 2020. Visit Ku-ring-gai Council’s website for more information.
Bushfire Property Protection Rebate
After last year’s catastrophic bushfires, Ku-ring-gai Council has designed a rebate campaign to assist and encourage homeowners to protect their homes against bushfires. Rebates are available for a number of projects, which you can find on their website, but here are a few examples:
- replacing skylights with toughened safety glass
- installing non-combustible door shutters
- installing a 5,000L water tank
- enclosing eaves with fire resistant timber or steel
- installing gutter shields
Retrofitting your home can be an expensive task, so as a part of the rebate, the council will cover 10% of your total amount spent, up to $1000.
To apply, begin by assessing your risk, and making a bushfire plan. Once you have established what needs to be done, you can submit a pre-approval form on the Ku-ring-gai council website. Applications close 26th June 2020.
Energy Smart Pool Pump Rebate
As a part of the Council’s Environment Sustainability Campaign, Ku-ring-gai residents who replace their old, inefficient pool pumps with a new, energy efficient pump will receive a $250 government rebate.
Making the switch is not only great for the environment, but could also save your household up to $417 annually on running costs. Make sure when purchasing your new pool pump that it has a minimum seven star energy rating, or you won’t be eligible for this rebate.
Applications are open till the 26th June 2020. For more information visit the Ku-ring-gai council website.
