Grant Money Available for EV Charging Stations in Texas

The State of Texas has grant money available for buying and installing Electric Vehicle charging Stations.

If you do not like free money or grants, there is no reason to read on. On the other hand, if you are developing or own commercial real estate in Texas, and if you want to get a grant for up for up to $2,500 to buy and install your Electric Vehicle Charging Station, please continue to read on!  Each owner can apply for up to

Currently, TCEQ is accepting applications for grants for properties that install Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations. The current program will accept applications until September 2, 2021, and after that, the remaining money in the program is expected to be re-allocated. The good news is that once the Grant gets approved, there is a two-year window to install the station.

The requirements to qualify are minimal. For property owners, the only items to be concerned with are as follows:

  • The charging station must be a Level 2 “dual” station, i.e. two charging stations.
  • The charging station must be able to have web access to monitor usage.
  • If you are planning on charging, the machine must be able to accept credit cards
  • The term of ownership is for 5 years.
  • A maximum of 10 activities may be included each application, and no more than 50 activities will be accepted from the same applicant every three months.

There is an important difference in Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charging Station equipment. While most Level 2 stations can only charge at a rate of 7.2 kWh, there are only a few on the market, that can charge at 19.2kWh. This is important because the EV battery is getting stronger over time and will be able to be charged quicker with the 19.2 kWh machine. If you are going to deploy an EV charging station, it is important that you have equipment that will stand the test of time!

REVS is knowledgeable about the application process and is available to assist property owners in applying for the grant, and planning, installation and management of the charging station.
