Grant Alert: EPA has $30M for the Consumer Recycling Education and Outreach (REO) Program

The EPA just released an RFA for a new program, the Community Education and Outreach (REO) Grant Program (https://www.epa.gov/rcra/recycling-education-and-outreach-grant-program). REO grants may be used to fund project that:

• "increase waste prevention activities, increase the collection of recyclable materials and program participation rates, and decrease contamination of the recycling stream," or
• "focus on commonly recycled materials such as municipal solid waste (e.g., plastics, aluminum, paper, glass, etc.), including food waste and organics," or
• "provide tools and technical assistance that will lead to long-term, sustained change, benefits, and support beyond the life of the grant."

In other words, applicants can do pretty much anything, since these goals are very general, making this a classic "walkin' around money" grant program for nimble nonprofits that want to do some kind of "outreach" related to recycling. There's $30M up for grabs with three-year grants to $2M available. But you must act fast as the deadline is January 16.
