Grampa
Many of us have pride in our work. We take steps to do our very best with the task at hand. When things run contrary to our expectations, we must somehow hold our heads up high and face the music.
I remember such a time when I was visiting with my grandchildren, Alexander and Elaina. We were at the kitchen table. They were naming animals and I would attempt to draw the types they would name.
I proceeded to draw the animal just named when my granddaughter looked at me with an expression of great frustration. She would look shifting her eyes back and forth from the drawing to me and back to the drawing. I must admit it was quite unsettling.
I asked her if she approved of this drawing. She answered in a loud clear syncopated response… “Grampa, that, is, not, a, yak”!
I was devastated. I think it wasn’t so much her facial expression as it was the simple fact that she at the age of 7 was my first experience with an art critic.
Well, life goes on!
