Whether it's college or high school when you're graduating, it's a big deal! Today I'm offering my five (5) questions and tips to ask your photographer prior to hiring. The first thing to ask is, are they outdoor or studio photographer? If you're into nature and the great outdoors, it will be a different set of gear the photographer will have compared to the look of studio portraits. Find out which they specialize in and go from there!
The second question to ask is, how many photos will you receive? A 30-minute session I provide my clients yields anywhere from 20-30 photos. I give 3-4 spots at the location we are shooting at and 3-4 poses. I look for the most scenic views and position the graduate (you) away from the sun so you look your best. This provides you with options when you are preparing your announcements.
The third question you should ask is what touch-up will you do? I always ask and have been told by my clients to "glam" it up or leave it "natural." I think this is a fair question because not everyone wants a lot of touch-ups and sometimes we are unsure and would like to know.

The fourth question to ask is, what should I wear? I get asked this all the time. This question is part of my "Styling a Shoot, What to Wear (for outdoor sessions)" and part of what I give you, my client if you're not sure. Not every photographer offers this and I consider this something that sets me apart from other photographers.
Lastly, graduates, ask if they will pose you or if you're doing that. Many clients ask me to show them how to walk, sit, stand, etc. This is important, it's the difference between looking stiff and looking natural. And no one wants to look stiff; we want you to look natural.
