Graduate Scheme Class Of 2023

Graduate Scheme 2023 What's been happening?

We can hardly believe our graduates have been with us 4 months and will soon be talking potential rotations!

Claire Wise , Talent Director for Mark Allen caught up with our class of 2023 to find out some of their highlights to date. Enjoy...

Chris Hoy The Engineer

I’ve loved my time at MAG so far. The Engineer UK team is amazing and have all been so supportive, and I’ve loved writing about topics, and meeting with people, that I never would have before. It’s been great to interview the likes of the Met Office, ESA and Lotus, as well as to see my news and first feature in this month’s print edition! - Ellie McCann

Izzy Felton

I had a great time at the Tes SEND Show , where I made my on-camera debut interviewing exhibitors and speakers about their work and why the show is important for those who work with children with SEND. It was nerve wracking but as a reward I got to meet writer Michael Rosen! It was also lovely working with Victoria Hart and Prasanna (no last name) on the SEND Network stand. Being a SENCO in a school can be an isolating job. Meeting those we provide a platform to, where they can share ideas and advice, made me feel like I am part of something positively impacting the sector. - Izzy Felton

Tobis Hudson Farmers Weekly Awards

I was satisfied with my coverage of the Farmer’s Question Time, able to get videos and content sent over for Instagram and social media posts further down the line. The aim was to offer what felt like real-time coverage, and I feel we managed to achieve that through a mix of various footage. Still plenty to learn and perfect, however! - Tobias Hudson

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan

The moment I am particularly proud of is when I got to interview Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan , the Mayor of London, as this was the biggest interview I have ever done, and it also gave me experience of on the ground reporting which was interesting to see! It was a great experience and definitely not something I thought I would be doing so soon in my job! - Amrit Virdi

Coming to work at Herne Hill is like entering platform 9 ? . Each day brings something new, exciting and insightful, and I leave home eager to begin a fresh day in the church. One of the most memorable moments was when I interviewed two renowned and kind autistic doctors about a novel framework they had developed to support neurodivergent patients access healthcare. That 1 hour was an incredible learning experience! I am grateful for the opportunity to write about their work and share their story on Independent Nurse. This is just one of the many memorable moments, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.

P.S: I was introduced to Party Rings and S Club by my team, apparently magical words! MAG office is turning out to be a real Hogwarts for me ?? - Upasana R.

Jonathan Whiting

Within the first week of me starting, I was asked to write an obituary to be posted online. It first went up on the Gramophone Magazine website with my name on it – which felt odd. Then a few weeks later the same article was printed in Opera Now with my name on it – in print. That felt crazy! - Jonathan Whiting

Holly Downes (interviewing)

Earlier this month, I attended the PIMFA Diversity and Inclusion awards to celebrate the best D&I initiatives in the financial industry. As an exclusive media partner, I talked with inspirational figures and had the opportunity to interview the award-winners about how they promote D&I in the workplace and beyond. This also led to a follow-up interview with?PIMFA’s early careers expert, Oris Ikomi, to celebrate Black History Month. We talked all things inclusion in the financial industry, from how to amplify Black talent to the importance of buy-in from senior management. A month of meaningful journalism (and getting thrown in the deep end) indeed! - Holly Downes

Tobias Hudson and Yzanne Pepper Farmers Weekly Awards

“A proud moment so far has been representing Mark Allen Group at the Farmers Weekly Awards. It was a fun, rewarding evening and the first time I completely felt like part of the team.” - Yzanne Pepper
