In Pharmaceutical industry, Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) is the versatile excipient used in most of the solid oral dosage forms. It is used as either diluent, binder or disintegrant. There are different grades of MCC are available based on their different physical characteristics like particle size, moisture content and bulk density. Sometime it is difficult to remember the different grades of Avicel.?But there is one trick to remember the different grades of MCC based on their numbering.
??Grades of Avicel ending with last odd number are having particle size of 50 micron.
??Grades of Avicel ending with last even number are having particle size of 100 micron.
?*There are some exceptional like Avicel 105 and Avicel 200.
