?? What a day! I finally got to see my Grade 5s for the first time this year (yes, yes... athletics, training, and all that jazz delayed us). But WOW, today was pure fun — a beautiful mix of adrenaline-fueled teaching and cramming lessons together like a pro. ??
Was it a perfect lesson? Nah. But we took an average lesson and elevated it to greatness. ?? Our focus? The wonderful world of radio communication, push buttons, and Morse code—all packaged with some real-world life skills. Here's how it went down:
1?? Watched a Video:
We started with a video introducing the concepts, but this wasn’t just a passive activity. The video had an actual rating button for feedback, so we sent our thoughts directly to the company that made it! I also asked the kids what they liked, didn’t like, and why. Why? Because even Grade 5s deserve to know that feedback matters (plus, their brutally honest opinions are golden ??).
2?? Enter ChatGPT (aka my trusty sidekick):
I introduced my digital partner-in-crime and taught the kids how to talk to "Mr. Chat":
? Start with your age (Chat loves context).
? Mention your subject and what you’re stuck on.
? Explain what tools you're using.

? Still confused? Politely ask for simpler terms.
We even got a silly story out of it, and despite my fears it might be "too kiddie," the kids LOVED it. Moral of the story? Grade 5s still adore whimsical, silly tales—never stop imagining! ???
3?? Practical Time – Micro:bits!
We dove into the hands-on fun by coding Micro:bits. Nothing like a little practical application to bring those concepts to life. ????
4?? PATS Planning:
We wrapped up with a chat about what’s expected for their PATS, brainstorming how to make it work with 18 devices and group dynamics. Teamwork and problem-solving were front and center.
Today wasn’t just about Coding and Robotics—it was about building real-life skills, nurturing creativity, and making learning FUN.
???? Grade 5s, you were amazing today. Let’s keep the energy going! #CodingAndRobotics #LifeSkills #TeacherAdventures #NeverStopImagining
