St Paul's Cathedral
Daniel Blackwell Dip GAI
Director at London Architectural Hardware Ltd & L20 Doorsets Ltd
I had the honour of being part of the refurbishment of St Paul’s Cathedral. The present cathedral, dating from the late 17th century, was designed in the English Baroque style by Sir Christopher Wren. Its construction was part of a major rebuilding programme in the city after the Great Fire of London and the dome has now dominated the skyline for over three hundred years, becoming a London icon.
LAH supplied new ironmongery for the refurbishment of the original doors and frames, ensuring that the design was still in keeping with the finish and feel of St Paul's but was up to date with British standards, fire regulations and could withstand the large number of tourists visiting every year.
For this project we used Simonswerk for the hinges, Dorma for the door closers and Itesori for the ironmongery and the finishing.
Over the 18 years of working in the industry history, working at St Paul’s Cathedral has been a real highlight and privilege.
