Gracechurch’s Weekly People: Relationships matter

Gracechurch’s Weekly People: Relationships matter

There’s something about today, February 14th, that gets me thinking about relationships (and eating heart-shaped chocolates). As I hit my three-month mark at Gracechurch and (deep breath) make my GWP newsletter debut, there’s no topic more fitting.

If you had asked me three months ago what makes insurance special, I wouldn’t have thought relationships. But, from my short time in this role, I’ve realised this industry is built on them. This was reinforced at our recent London Claims Social, where I met people who have worked together as competitors and/or colleagues for decades. Deals get done, careers grow, and businesses thrive because of the connections and trust built over time, whether that be through emails, WhatsApp, ‘phone calls, visits to Lloyd’s, conferences, events, lunches or even a cheeky pint in the Lamb.

I used to think insurance was a ‘stuck in an office’ kind of industry. But the reality? Being the smartest person in the room isn’t enough: the people who show up, listen, converse and show they care make the biggest impact. And, as the Gracechurch data shows, this focus on relationships is ultimately good for business.

So, in the spirit of great relationships, I’d like to spotlight a few individuals recognised for emotional intelligence (EQ), relationship management, and approachability:

Let’s take a moment to appreciate those relationships that have made an impact on our careers. Drop us a line and share your thoughts!

Have a great weekend...and lots of chocs!
