Grab Merges with Uber in Southeast Asia
Today is a milestone day in the life of Grab and Southeast Asia’s tech industry. In a landmark deal - the largest ever acquisition by a Southeast Asian internet company - Grab has acquired Uber’s Southeast Asian transportation and food delivery operations!
To our customers, driver-partners, agent-partners, merchant-partners, business partners, government and media friends - THANK YOU. Your support and belief in this little Southeast Asian startup got us here, and we couldn't be more grateful. We recognise that our responsibility to all of you and to our region has just grown larger - and you have our fullest commitment that we will do everything we can to continue to be the best Grab we can be for you, staying true to our mission to improve the lives of people across Southeast Asia.
To all Grabbers around Southeast Asia and beyond – THANK YOU. Thank you for all the hard work, sleepless nights and sacrifices you and your loved ones have made to get us here. Thank you for your passion, dedication and commitment to making life better for all Southeast Asians, enabling us to build a world-class, on-demand transportation service that millions of Southeast Asians count on every day. Thank you for daring to take on seemingly impossible challenges together with Hooi Ling and I, proving time and time again that nothing is impossible when Grabbers work together.
To the former Uber Southeast Asia team - let me be the first to wish you a huge and warm welcome to Grab! It is our great honour and privilege to welcome such a talented and passionate group of people into our midst, and I am extremely excited about the opportunity to meet with, work with, and learn from all of you in the coming days and weeks. We’ve both achieved so much as separate entities - imagine what we could achieve together as one team! We know that this might be an emotional and trying time for you, but rest assured that our team will be working closely with the Uber HR team to help make this transition as smooth as possible for you.
And last but not least, to Dara and the rest of the Uber team - thank you for making us better. As the saying goes - iron sharpens iron. Thank you for always keeping us honest, and being the force that constantly spurred us to become better versions of ourselves. We look forward to working and partnering with you in the months ahead to make an even greater impact in Southeast Asia.
As one chapter ends, another begins and we are extremely excited about what lies ahead for Grab. Southeast Asia continues to be one of the most dynamic economic regions in the world, with the fastest growing middle class and digital economy of any region – and Grab is right at the heart of it. Over the past year, with our various launches and investments into services like GrabExpress, GrabFood, GrabRewards, GrabPay and GrabFinancial, we’ve started down a journey to expand beyond transport into other everyday services, to become the leading online-to-offline (O2O) mobile platform in Southeast Asia.
Our acquisition of Uber’s Southeast Asian food delivery operations further accelerates this, so look out for the launch of GrabFood in all major cities across Southeast Asia by the middle of this year, as we work hard to earn the right to serve you as your preferred food delivery provider!
Thank you once again, and I look forward to sharing more exciting news with you in the days and weeks ahead.

6 年Hi Anthony, Glad that you understood how it felt as a Grab partner. Ever thought of challenging yourself or your co-founder and TOP management on being a Grab driver? Best if you can use a Maserati or Porsche to drive whichever kind of riders you could. The challenge is to last for one month - 50 trips minimum a week? Since Grab has mentioned that you could use Maserati or Porsche, I’d supposed you guys would easily afford one and don’t mind using it to lead by example? For the second month, try doing it as a part timer. Meaning you must also try to hit whatever incentives set for part time drivers. You are only to drive between 7-9am and from 6-8pm. Hit 65 rides within 5-6 days. Let us know of your experience and SHOW if you could hit the incentives.
