Grab a Byte: Five Industry-Shaping Predictions for 2025
As the director of ByteSnap Design , I wanted to share our team's insights and predictions for 2025.
Our engineers and industry professionals have come together to share the main trends & technological developments that we believe will shape our industry in the coming year.
The Evolution of Bluetooth Technology
Our engineering team has highlighted the rollout of Bluetooth 6.0 as a major development to watch. The introduction of the new feature called ‘channel sounding’ is particularly interesting, offering remarkable precision in device location—within 1 cm over a range of 150 m. At ByteSnap, we're already looking into how these capabilities could both help warehouse management, and enhance security systems.
Security Takes Centre Stage
We believe that 'Secure by Design' principles will soon become non-negotiable. With new regulations like the EU Cyber Resilience Act and US Executive Order 14028 coming into play, we’re advising clients to prioritise security assessments of their products. Drawing from our collective experience in embedded systems, we think 2025 will be a key year for implementing robust security measures across all connected devices.
A Notable Split in the Semiconductor Market
Our hardware engineers have observed a notable change in the microcontroller market. Through our consulting work at ByteSnap, we're seeing increased demand for two distinct categories of microcontrollers: high-security microcontrollers for internet-connected applications and simpler, more cost-effective options for offline devices. This split is influencing how our team approaches product design recommendations.

The Rise of User-Friendly Development Tools
ByteSnap's software team has been following the shift towards Visual Studio Code. We're seeing major silicon vendors, led by Silicon Labs, moving away from proprietary IDEs. This transition aligns with what our developers have been advocating for: more flexible, cross-platform development tools that enhance productivity.
The AI Impact on Embedded Systems
While there's much discussion about AI across all sectors, our team at ByteSnap is specifically focused on its practical applications in embedded electronics. Through our client projects, we're seeing increasing demand for AI integration within development processes, particularly with regards to security measures. We can see the importance of practical applications that genuinely enhance the capabilities of embedded system, rather than just follow trends.
