GPT-5 on the Horizon? Project Orion coming this year.
Welcome to AI Weekly Breakthroughs!
Let's make sense of the AI tomorrow, today.
GPT-5 Rumors and the New Model Orion Coming Later This Year
The News:? What began as Project Q* and continued as Project Strawberry now seems to be materializing. To refresh the memory, Q* and Strawberry are OpenAI’s initiatives aimed at developing models with enhanced reasoning abilities, enabling AI to tackle more complex tasks that require strategic planning. According to The Information, Project Strawberry has already been demonstrated to the federal government. However, its true value doesn't lie in producing an end-user model. Instead, it's designed to generate high-quality synthetic data, which will be used to train a new generation of models.
Enter Project Orion—OpenAI's new flagship large language model. If the rumors hold true, Orion will significantly improve reasoning and problem-solving abilities, building on the already impressive natural language understanding and generation capabilities.
But that’s not all from OpenAI. According to OpenAI Japan’s CEO, the next model "GPT Next," is expected later this year. GPT Next promises a 100x performance boost and will benefit from the advancements made in Project Strawberry.

The Impact: "Full steam ahead" for the Robotics domain and all major tech players want to be involved. OpenAI has partnered with Figure, and NVIDIA with Neura. Now, Amazon is making its own strategic move to strengthen its robotics capabilities, positioning itself as a key player in the future of AI and robotics.
AI that can spot cancer with nanoscale precision
The News:?Researchers have developed an AI system capable of distinguishing cancer cells from healthy ones and detecting the earliest stages of viral infections within cells.
The tool, called AINU (AI of the Nucleus), scans high-resolution images of cells obtained through a microscopy technique known as STORM. STORM captures images at nanoscale resolution, and AINU uses these snapshots to identify extremely small cellular rearrangements. This allows for the early detection of alterations, giving doctors critical time to monitor and respond to potential diseases.
