GPT-4 Turbo: 4 Major Updates To Look Out For

GPT-4 Turbo: 4 Major Updates To Look Out For

On November 6, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI introduced GPT-4 Turbo, the latest model for ChatGPT that can access information from new databases and is more efficient in following instructions and generating customized results.

In today’s newsletter, we are taking a detailed look at the new features and improvements that you need to grasp and take advantage of.?

What is GPT-4 Turbo?

During its recent developer conference, Open AI announced the forthcoming launch of GPT-4 Turbo, the latest version of ChatGPT, and a creator model for chatbots.

GPT-4 Turbo is an update to Open AI’s present large language model (LLM) and brings several improvements such as access to more current knowledge and a larger context window. These are about to create massive advantages for OpenAI ChatGPT development with the capabilities of personalized instructions, Dall-E 3, ChatGPT plugins, and Advanced Data Analytics.?

GPT-4 Turbo With Vision

GPT-4 Turbo with Vision is a version of GPT-4 Turbo that includes the capability of optical character recognition (OCR). This means that you can upload an image into it and it can recognize and return any text present in the image.?

For instance, you can feed it an image of a menu and GPT-4 Turbo with Vision will convert all the names of the food items in the menu into text. Similarly, you can input a photo of an invoice and get the name of the vendor, item details, and prices paid in text form. The text recognition feature will be made available in ChatGPT by default and can be accessed by developers by selecting the “GPT-4-vision” model in the OpenAI API (Application Programming Interface).?

Key Features of GPT-4 Turbo

GPT-4 Turbo promises several advantages over the previous models, boosting its capabilities in ChatGPT applications development, content generation, and a lot more. Here are some of the most significant improvements you need to take note of.

Upgraded Knowledge Cut-off

The present versions of GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 could access knowledge up to that of September 2021. This means that these models are unable to answer questions or obtain information on world events that have taken place beyond that point in time unless provided with inputs from external data sources.

GPT-4 Turbo expands ChatGPT’s knowledge cutoff by 19 months to April 2023, meaning that it can access more up-to-date information and provide better results. This makes it a significantly more reliable and accurate source of information.

128K Context Window

The context window of a large language model refers to the measure of how long its retention of a conversation lasts. GPT-4 has a context length of 32k (32,000) tokens. The Turbo version extends it to 128K tokens (approximately 240 to 400 words per page).?

Although tokens are not directly equivalent to the number of words in a prompt, OpenAI says that the new prompt size limit is around 300 pages of an average-sized book. You can now input longer prompts and also feed in long documents and ask GPT-4 Turbo to write you a summary or gist.

More Cost-effective for Developers

It can get quite expensive for developers to use GPT-4 Turbo from the OpenAI API. CEO Sam Waltman assures that the new pricing for GPT-4 Turbo is 1 cent for 1000 prompt tokens and 3 cents for 1000 completion tokens. This makes ChatGPT applications development more affordable while increasing the accuracy and efficiency levels.

Multiple Tooks in a Single Chat

ChatGPT Plus subscribers are familiar with the GPT-4 dropdown menu to select different chatbot tools. However, this menu allows you to use only one tool at a time and limits productivity. This hinderance has been done away with in GPT-4 Turbo where you can access multiple chatbot tools simultaneously. For instance, if you ask for an image, it will intuitively use Dall-E 3 to generate results for your prompt.

Key Takeaways

While generative AI tools like GPT-3.5 and 4, Alphacode, and Bard are effectively revamping most of the workflows of developers and content creators, GPT-4 Turbo is projected to step things up several notches. With its ability to access more updated knowledge, take in longer prompts, follow instructions better, and provide multi-tool support, GPT-4 Turbo offers a lot more for both professionals and individuals looking to gain knowledge or create content.
