GPT-4: The next AI revolution is here
Hello, LinkedIn family! I am sure you must have heard the latest buzz in the world of AI by now. While we are still getting accustomed to GPT-3, the highly anticipated GPT-4 has been released by OpenAI. It is all set to revolutionize the field of natural language processing (NLP) and take AI to the next level.
GPT-4 is going to be a game-changer. The previous versions of GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) have already amazed us with their features. But GPT-4 is expected to surpass all its predecessors.
“GPT-4 can solve difficult problems with greater accuracy, thanks to its broader general knowledge and problem-solving abilities”
-OpenAI
When was GPT-4 released?
GPT-4 was released on 14 March 2023 and is available via?ChatGPT Plus?(with a usage cap), and API (developers can sign up on a?waitlist)
GPT-4 vs GPT-3:
Let's explore how GPT-4 is different from its predecessors:
1.??Multimodality: GPT-4 is a large multimodal model as it can accept Images, and text inputs and render textual outputs unlike its predecessors GTP 3.5 and GPT 3. OpenAI is currently testing the image understanding capability of GPT-4 with?Be My Eyes. While this capability isn’t yet available to all OpenAI customers, it is an exciting step in the field of natural language processing.
2.??Capable of?handling nuanced texts. The “system” messages API capability allows developers to prescribe style and task by describing specific directions

3.??With its creative powers, GPT-4 can help users unlock their creativity by composing songs, writing screenplays, or learning a user’s writing style.
4.??GPT-4 can handle over 25,000 words of text, allowing for use cases like content creation, extended conversations, document search, and analysis.
5.??GPT-4 has been carefully designed to reduce elements of bias, misinformation, or other potential harms. The safety measures implemented in GPT-4 are said to be more effective than those in GPT-3.5. However, OpenAI highlights that it is still not entirely reliable and must be used with extreme caution.
?“We’ve decreased the model’s tendency to respond to requests for disallowed content by 82% compared to GPT-3.5, and GPT-4 responds to sensitive requests (e.g., medical advice and self-harm) in accordance with our policies 29% more often.”
-OpenAI
But, with great power comes great responsibility. OpenAI has made it clear that they are committed to ensuring that GPT-4 is developed in a way that is safe and beneficial to society (#ResponsibleAI).
This area is still under research and OpenAI looks forward to improving this model through the community's collective efforts.
