GPS Trackers & Dementia

I went out onto Dartmoor last night on an exercise with the amazing people from Dartmoor Search and Rescue & I was with Ian Sherriff from Plymouth University. We did an exercise of finding a person with a GPS tracker to see how easy it was, then we pretended to be someone with dementia.
We were safe at all times, as someone from the Search and Rescue Group was with us at all times to make sure of it. When I got "lost", I was briefed to be tearful, then aggressive and the team were amazing, they kept me safe and tried really hard to calm my agitation!
My overall experience was brilliant, I had a fun & very interesting evening, I was in awe of the work of this group of dedicated volunteers & they found the exercise valuable and will learn lessons from the experience.

9 年Thank you for sharing this. It would be valuable for many of us to experience this in order to promote the benefits with people in the early stages of dementia, and their families and carers. Locally, the GPS is promoted and supported by Lifeline/telecare. I will discuss this exercise with them and see how we can take this forward, perhaps via the DAA.
none at not working
9 年Did the tracker lead them right to you ? Sounds a powerful experience
