GP Replacement for 19AB Exemption

GP Replacement for 19AB Exemption

Today we’re taking a look at another 19AB exemption, to be considered by GPs who are currently restricted by the 10 year moratorium.

In the wake of changes earlier this year, and following on from our discussion on the locum exemption, there has been quite a lot of talk about the “Replacement for historical 19AB exemption”.

OTD GPs and practices have been seeking clarity on the ability to replace an GP who leaves a practice, when the practice location is now not otherwise eligible for OTDs to apply for a provider number.

In the case that the previous GP has been working under a DWS (now DPA) exemption, but the location is now not in a Distribution Priority Area, then if that GP decides to leave, then the practice can apply to replace one 19AB restricted GP with another.

The replacement exemption helps to allow practices to provide continuity of care to their local community.

So, now that you know how it works, your next question will be: “Is there an opportunity that will suit me?”

The good news is that we currently have a number of vacancies in metro areas to work with practices who are looking to replace a GP who was under the 19AB exemption.

Naturally, over time, the number of these opportunities will decrease, so the coming months are a good time to utilise these.

We’ve had some interest in these from a number of GPs who may have recently completed their Fellowship, or who are in a metro location, and are looking to for a change.

As it stands, we have opportunities in locations including Midland, Rockingham, Joondalup, Yanchep, Bunbury, and Cairns.

You can view these and others on our website using the 19AB replacement dropdown.

If you aren’t able to start for 6 months or so, then let’s still have the conversation. It can often take some time to confirm the right placement, and organised practices often plan with the 6 – 12 month horizons. If we are able to find the right place for you to practice, then you can work on other aspects of a move.

If you have any related questions, or would like to catch up for a chat, I’m available here, or on 0436391218.

And remember, if you know someone who will find this useful, please share and include @your friend’s name, to share this information
