Government pulls Renters Reform Bill at 11th hour
The Renters Reform Bill, which was promised by the Conservative government in 2019, has been delayed once again.
Despite Housing Secretary Michael Gove's announcement last week that it would be published this week, The Mirror newspaper has reported that "procedural issues" have caused the delay.
There has been speculation that Tory backbenchers are unhappy with the proposed pro-tenant, anti-landlord sentiment contained in the Bill.
The Mirror, a Labour-supporting publication, will report tomorrow that Shadow Housing Secretary Lisa Nandy has pledged to introduce more extensive reforms of the private rental sector.
