Government procurement requests worth BD6million in spotlight
MANAMA: Mahmood Rafique, Editor: The ICT governance committee meeting led Mohamed Ali Al Qaed, Chief Executive of the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) has discussed BD6million worth of Government procurement requests.
During the virtual meeting, the committee discussed number of projects and purchase requests submitted by the government entities with estimated cost of BD 6 million.

Al-Qaed welcomed the committee members and thanked them for their efforts. The committee reviewed m topics on the agenda, including the project of developing official websites and webpages for Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, which focuses on reinforcing Bahrain's online presence as a tourism destination. The project also includes the development of a mobile app to provide a better user experience and wider audience.

The committee also discussed the data warehouse project of the National Bureau for Revenue, which relies on modern technologies and big data to perform deep analysis on revenue data, as well as supporting decision-making, provide initiative-taking corrective actions and analytical insights.

They also discussed the revamp of Expatriate Management System (EMS) project, which focuses on improving system integration with other government systems, as well as automating and improving business processes, in addition to improving the user interface and experience.
The EMS is one of the main systems at the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) that which provides essential services for employers at the labor market, such as applying for new work permits, permit renewals, change of expatriate profession, and other transactions related to employers.

The committee also discussed Bahrain Polytechnic project related to equipping Computer Laboratories with a range of high-performance modern computers that are in-line with the latest standards and to compatible with the requirements of the specialized studies in the fields of artificial intelligence, big data and electronic game development as part of the Polytechnic's preparations for the upcoming academic year.

Ministry of Works’ Road Information Modelling project (BIM), as part of ministry's plans and continuous efforts to increase work efficiency aiming at improving roads’ planning, design, construction, and maintenance also discussed in the meeting.

The committee also discussed other projects and purchase requests related to information technology systems and services in a number of government entities to ensure the business continuity. Implementation progress of previous meetings discussed during the previous meeting and its related decisions.
