Governance System or Corporate Governance: The missing link for Organizations to achieve success and become Lean
When people talk about the key elements for a company to achieve success and also on their lean transformation path they focus on culture, leadership, and others. There is a missing link that nobody talks about and it is crucial for Organizations to achieve success and become lean: Governance System or Corporate Governance.
What is Governance System or Corporate Governance?
Governance System is a mechanism for monitoring, actions, policies and decisions of an Organization. It is the system of rules, practices and processes by which a company is directed and controlled.
We can’t forget that people have an impact on the Governance System too.
I developed a survey that will help you assess the Governance System of your Organization. This survey
Why is it important? Because understanding the current situation of your Organization’s Governance System will help you develop an action plan to have it balanced enough so it can provide sustainable decisions with minimal effort that are aligned with the Organization’s Vision.
We believe that a successful Governance System must have 5 main characteristics:
- It must be customer driven
- It must be flexible
- It must empower people
- It must promote collaborative decision making
- It must promote continuous learning
Based on the results of the survey you can score your governance system and identify the areas for improvement.
Before you start the survey please read the definitions of some of the terms we use in our survey. They are described below.
Be very open when you answer your survey so you can get the best out of it.
As you finish the survey we will be sending you the score so you can reflect on it.
The link for the survey will be at the end of this document

Still thinking about this......there are so many constraints and factors each contextual, and although Governance is important it is not the panacea. Being lean requires a thorough identification, mapping and optimistation of waste and value streams (as interpreted by the client)...Think that this is a good contribution but there is still work to do.
