Gotta Recruit 'em All!
Nintendo is Back!
You probably heard it in the news but Nintendo added $9 billion to their company value by finally releasing a good game on mobile. For some strange reason they were stubborn to only push their games on Nintendo consoles and not accepting a mobile driven market. People want to have classic Nintendo games combined with the features of a smartphone: touch, geolocalization, camera, social, gyro and accelerator. The new Pokémon Go embraces that.
Create an Awesome Employee Experience
This got me thinking of recruiting top talent. To create a good employee experience you need to create a good cultural, physical and technological environment. We therefore can learn some lessons from Nintendo.
It's no big secret that our personal and work lives are blending in with each other. We want to have a sense of purpose in our personal and work lives. We see this trend happening with organizations having a flexible working hour culture, free dress code, fun office design, remote working, etc. However, when it comes to technology Benelux enterprises are years behind. We are spoiled in our personal lives with awesome looking apps like Snapchat but then when we go to the office we are confronted with legacy on-premise enterprise applications that are not mobile ready. All in all, the gap between our personal and work life for technology is huge!
Just to give you an example: in my decision to move from Oracle to Lumesse, it was important that I could have a Sales tool that I could use on the go with a simple design. Every time I'm on the way to a customer meeting, I could have all the essential information at my finger tips and update on the go. I would never work for an organization that doesn't have a mobile first mindset. Or if I do, it would be to drive change in kicking out legacy technology.
Mobile Strategy
As best practice I would recommend not to wait too long like Nintendo to step into mobile. First of all the market screams smartphones and tablets.. just look around when walking in the city, and now people catching Pokémons in the streets. Second of all, a good mobile strategy will result in an awesome employee experience from hire to retire and better employer brand:
- A career website that is responsive will result in higher ranking by Google, thus increase visibility.
- Keep the dropout rate of the application process to a minimum by letting candidates apply on their iPhone with preferably one click of a button.
- Give recruiters and hiring managers that are on the go, access to candidates that have applied via mobile.
- Continuous talent development feedback via an app.
- Social collaboration.
- And so on..

8 年Great article Lazlo. It also highlights the power of games. Our Learning team are already bringing gamification into their work and it would be great to see recruitment systems follow suit
