GOTM Scenarios: Open Channel Flow

GOTM Scenarios: Open Channel Flow

The selection of turbulence closure scheme has important consequences on model results through mixing and circulation (Burchard et al., 1998). Several test cases were conducted to explore the performance of various turbulence closure options available in EEMS12 with the implementation of EFDC+/GOTM coupling. Results obtained with five different model configurations, including Mellor-Yamada (EFDC+ Original Approach); Mellor-Yamada (EFDC+/GOTM); k-ε (EFDC+/GOTM); k-ω (EFDC+/GOTM); and Generic (EFDC+/GOTM), were compared and investigated for each test-case. New Study Reveals Global Destruction of Floodplains

?A new study by a hydrologist at the University of Texas at Arlington provides the first-ever global estimate of human destruction of natural floodplains. The study published in Nature can help guide future development in a way that can restore and conserve vital floodplain habitats. These habitats are critical to wildlife, water quality, and reducing flood risk for people. Per Adnan Rajib and his team, the world is at greater flood risk than what we realized, especially considering what effect human development has had on floodplains. In 27 years, between 1992 and 2019, the world has lost a dramatic 600,000 square kilometers of floodplains due to human disturbances, which include infrastructure development, industry and business construction and expansion of agriculture.
