Got a Burning Idea for a Book?
Robert Lang - The Book Pilot
I help people tell their story the way they want it to be told. I work to your priorities, to ensure your memoirs, works of fiction, poetry or short stories get written and completed; edited, proofread and published.
By which I mean a productive idea not a destructive idea...well:
Getting a book written and published is easier than it’s ever been.
Or…is it?
Yes, self-publishing is reasonably straightforward and inexpensive and many traditional publishers, faced with online competition, have adapted and extended their services to at least encourage new authors to send in a submission or pay a fixed price for an online publishing service.
Getting published the old way – as a hard copy, printed book remains more difficult, but there is a growing coterie of literary agents (some experienced, others new to the game), actively inviting submissions from as yet unrepresented authors.
So, yes, all in all…and depending on your preferred route, publishing is potentially much easier than it used to be.
But… what about the writing?
Do you feel you never have enough time to get properly stuck into your writing?
Or...
Do you have lots of great ideas but can’t somehow order them into a cohesive narrative?
Or...
Do you have the basic story down, but are unsure if it’s ready to present for publishing yet?
These three questions – and other dilemmas that can afflict the writer, can sometimes be resolved by engaging a third party to provide solutions, in one or more of the following ways:
1. Consultancy – to listen to and gain an understanding of your aims and aspirations for your book and provide encouragement and a structure to get you writing regularly and working on your book in a manner that you enjoy and can stick to.
2. Structural Editing – to help order the content so that it delivers a cohesive and convincing narrative that enables a reader to understand and engage with your story or subject, sometimes including advice on how to divided the content into different sections or chapters
3. Copy Editing – to polish and edit the content to produce a finished manuscript that is the best it can be; focused on key storylines or messaging, discussing with you and editing out any superfluous content and correcting and ensuring accurate grammar and spelling: delivering a tight final draft with the aim of achieving a high quality book, with content that will retain a reader’s attention from start to finish.
4. Proof-reading – double checking to ensure accuracy of spelling, grammar, sentence structure and overall composition
5. Preparing to Publish – research into the best options for publishing and examining associated costs and distribution; with recommendations provided and, if desired, follow up enquiries to publishers on your behalf.
Any author can benefit immensely from any one of the above, a combination of several or all five services. However, if you're a new author desirous of producing a high quality publication, whether simply for personal satisfaction or in order to hopefully sell plenty of books, the above will provide comprehensive guidance and assistance to help ensure you get it done and get it done well!
I now offer the above services, either as a whole package or as individual interventions; tailored to your requirements, at a highly competitive rate and with a 100% commitment to assisting every author I work with to realise their goals as a writer and be able to share their finished book with as wide a readership as possible.
If you’ve got a book burning inside you – let’s give it life and get it out there!
